Pink dresses from Zeila style 3020461
Pink dresses like this gorgeous fuchsia pink flower print from Zeila teamed with a fuchsia jacket make a stunning statement

We tend to associate pink dresses with young girls don’t we? Think Barbie, think Cinderella. A lot of mothers of the bride tell me they are too old to wear pink. I disagree. There is a shade of pink for everyone of us. For me, it’s more a coral tone. A friend of mine who looks like Snow White – pale skin and black hair – is a knock-out in fuchsia pink dresses. Look at Mary Berry. She’s no spring chicken and she looks gorgeous in her soft pink cardigans.

Of course, I am not talking head to toe in bubblegum pink. There is an age we all reach when we run the risk of looking like a sugar plum fairy if we overdo it on the pink. However, pink is a stunning colour.

Pink dresses – how to look pretty in pink

Pink dresses are very in for occasionwear. Take a look at our mother of the bride pages and you will see so much choice in all manner of shades.

Soft vintage pinks are really in vogue and this shade looks particularly gorgeous in lace.

You can also choose dusky pinks or those with a hint of lilac running through.  All make superb choices for wedding outfits as they are subtle and sophisticated. They also complement an ivory wedding dress beautifully.

If you want to make a stronger statement, then fuchsia pinks or magenta pinks can look amazing, especially for high summer weddings.

There are a lot of lovely floral pink looks around for spring/summer too which are so feminine and pretty.

Did you know it didn’t always used to be pink for girls and blue for boys? The Ladies’ Home Journal article in June 1918 said, “The generally accepted rule is pink is for the boys and blue for the girls. The reason is that pink, being a more decided and stronger colour, is more suitable for the boy, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty is prettier for the girl.”

So, perhaps it’s time to get our men wearing pink too!
