Blue dresses from Zeila
Blue dresses like this powder blue one by Zeila are perfect for spring/summer weddings

Blue dresses for mothers of the bride and groom are proving really popular this season. Mums of the bride and groom are loving the choice of strong blues such as navy and cobalt through to the softer tones of baby blues and powder blues in occasion wear.

Blue is also such a great colour to complement the ivory of a wedding dress or the grey or navy suits of the groom and his party.

Whether you are dark-haired, blond, grey or a red-head, there tends to be a shade of blue that is right for you.

Blue dresses – why blue is cool

Navy is a timeless classic when it comes to colour and is a great choice for occasion wear. It doesn’t fight with any other colours and is smart and sophisticated. Mother of the bride designer Condici is doing some stunning navy outfits this season. I especially love frock coat and dress style 11290. Take a look and you will see the navy and cream combination of the dress is just so smart. Teamed with the floaty navy frock coat, it looks so sophisticated.

If you want to jazz the look up, add a pop of another colour with your shoes and headpiece. There is no rule to say you have to be head-to-toe in the same colour. Navy is a great foil against so many other colours – pink, red, even a softer shade of blue.

Cobalt cool

If you want to make a statement with your mother of the bride or mother of the groom outfit, then strong blue tones like cobalt work perfectly. This colour also photographs really well. Our Spanish designers like Cabotine and Zeila love the colour blue and we have a huge choice in all shades of this colour.

Pastel pretty

If the wedding theme is more pastel, then consider baby blues and pastel blues. Mother of the bride designer Mascara has some pretty soft pastel blue choices, especially style MC185199AB. This is such pretty powder blue dress and jacket. You’ll also like the price as well as the style with the outfit just £259.

And remember, wearing blue will tick one thing off from the traditional wedding rhyme “something borrowed, something blue”. Dating back to 1883, the blue is a sign of fidelity.
