Ascot outfits – winning looks for the race meet of the year

Thursday, April 20th, 2017

What you wear to Royal Ascot is as important as what you may win at this amazing race event. If you have never been and love dressing up – you must try and get to go. It is a people-watchers paradise aside from the great horse racing.  Ascot outfits demand a strict dress code. What you can and can’t wear depends on what enclosure you are visiting. There are very clear guidelines on the Royal Ascot website and a great video.

The main guidelines are that dresses should be below the knee and straps on dresses should be at least one inch wide so no spaghetti straps. And Royal Ascot is now very strict about these dress codes. Thank goodness. The event was starting to look like a massive hen night!

Do you have to wear a jacket? The answer is no. You can wear a wrap if you prefer but do remember your dress underneath still needs to comply with the above dress code. And of course a statement hat or headpiece is a must-wear.

Our shop is really busy at the moment with ladies looking for their Ascot outfits and hats.  Many are concerned that they don’t want to look like a mother of the bride. But there are easy ways around this.

A dress and jacket for Ascot needs to be smart but doesn’t have to be as formal as some occasion wear. Most women, quite rightly, also want to be able to wear their Ascot outfit again for other occasions.

Michaela Louisa is a great dress designer that offers formal wear at great prices. You can choose pretty dresses teamed with jackets. The great thing about this is that both items can be worn separately for other occasions. The jackets look great with jeans or smart trousers. The dresses are ideal for taking on your summer holidays (obviously you will win enough on the horses to book yourself a getaway!) There are also some lovely standalone dresses which need no jacket. Do bear in mind though that Ascot can be windy as the racecourse is exposed so make sure you take a pashmina to keep the chill at bay.

If you just fancy a lovely dress, another great designer is Tina Taylor. Shift dresses are so easy to wear and a timeless classic. These are perfect for Ascot as they have the wide straps that are part of the dress code requirements. They also look great with heels or wedges.

Royal Ascot has a great heritage so why not think about capturing a look from the past? Veromia Occasions does a range of stunning vintage-inspired dresses that look stunning teamed with a statement hat or headpiece.
