Autumn dresses have arrived

The downside is driving to and coming home from work in the dark but autumn does have lots of other plus points. That lovely fresh nip in the air, the “mists and mellow fruitfulness” as Mr Keats so eloquently reminds us.

Love the fact the weather report this morning on the Chris Evans radio show included the ‘Frizz Factor’  – a high of 8 today so not good for any of us with thick, wavy hair! I must get myself a trendy felt hat.

For me autumn is also the simple joy of putting your first pair of new, thick, soft opaque tights on and those gorgeous new boots you bought in the last winter sale and haven’t had a chance to wear yet.  The look is finished off with a cosy, jersey dress. Even before I owned a dress shop, I could never be doing with the hassle of trying to find a top to match a skirt or vice versa. I must have 10 orphan skirts just hanging in my wardrobe that I have never been able to find a match for. Anyone out there know a good blouse company that isn’t too expensive? I’ve never worked out why blouses can often cost more than the price of a dress.

There is of course the added nightmare of having to iron a blouse or a top. Jersey dresses – you wash, hang, then wear. As far as I’m concerned, an easy-care and easy wear dress buys me at least another 15 minutes duvet time in the morning. Isn’t that good dress sense?
