Polo has always been a glamorous sport. Add to that sun, sea and sand and you’re galloping away with glam!
The British Beach Polo Championships held on exclusive Sandbanks Beach in Poole is one of the highlights of the social calendar in Dorset and attracts people from all over the world.
The polo ponies and players are immaculately turned out so what do you wear as a spectator? Unlike many other sporting events, there are no dress code restrictions at Sandbanks Polo – all you have to do is look glam and gorgeous.
Summer dresses are the obvious choice – short, long, floaty, clingly, backless,halter-neck, maxi – the choice is yours. Bear in mind it needs to look good with flip flops or summer sandals. Walking on sand in heels can destroy that sexy walk you’ve been working on! It must also compliment your designer sunglasses – no one wants to be squinting into the face of a handsome polo player!
For short and sexy or floaty and vibrant frocks, check out American designers La Femme, Faviana and Tony Bowles. Stay cool in cotton with designs by Tina Taylor, Michaela Louisa and Frank Lyman. And if you’re on a budget, take a look at Fever – a great collection of maxi dresses and summer dresses costing from as little as £70.
Don't forget, there are also apres-polo parties on the Friday and Saturday night where glam dresses are a must. Sexy little black numbers are always a winner. Take a look at Australian designer Ruth Tarvydas. Her black dresses really have the wow factor and with names such as 'Lust', 'Swing It' and' Out of this World', you'll see why. Perfect for clubbing the night away. American dress designer Faviana offers lots of hot styles in evening dresses - slinky low backs and plunging necklines while La Femme does the ultimate mullet dress ( short at front and long at back) in feminine prints and colours. Get dancing on the sand!
The British Beach Polo Championships are held on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th July.
